I was in some research facility underground. It seemed to be both military (lots of security) and university (lots of students). The lights flickered out at some point. Creatures that fed on human blood (which I never actually saw) had escaped their holding tanks and were pursuing. There was just a mass panic of screaming and crowds rushing in all directions.
I was making my way through some sort of dilapidated water related facility with some other people. I have vague memories of being in the military and sneaking out of camp at night – we were apparently going AWOL and this is why we were willing to wade through flooded basement halls full of all kids of bugs and things.
I was in a dark underground labyrinth, ancient and somehow organic feeling. I was in one sort of spherical room with a soft moist floor with pods growing out of the flood and from them, foot-tall wasps hatched when someone brushed against them too hard. This nest of wasps was the security system for this place, but their range of vision was minimal.
The sense of Greek mythology was strong, and it’s not clear to me why I feel this. Perhaps I was in the Greek underworld. I do believe that at some point I was on a team playing a game/battle against an opposing team in one of the dark chambers. Our side of the ‘board’ or ‘field’ was elevated above theirs, and they appeared to be witches and gorgons and other humanoid creatures hissing and calling out ot us. The game felt like a weird hybrid of volleyball (but with more people) and chess (but played with humans/humanoids instead of chess pieces).
I was a boy wizard going to a wizard school. The dream was certainly Harry Potter inspired, but the school and its staff more resembled schools from my life and from other fiction than from the HP universe.
I was accused of a particular crime by a faculty member that I never knew what it was. It was a crime so severe, and the accusing authority was so trusted, that my fate to be punished for it was absolute. Nobody believed in my innocence, including my (not IRL) parents, who were part of the process for conditioning me for my punishment. I got this sense that my crime was not one of doing but one of being – like perhaps I was discovered to be the reincarnation of some evil demon or whatever.
People pitied me more than anything. They did not hate me, but I could not run free, and while my parents and others empathized, they were certain of my guilt and would not allow me to roam freely.
I was dungeon exploring. There was a hill that appeared to be the ruins of an ancient city. At the top was a well-preserved temple surrounded by orchards of trees. The top floor of the temple had no walls, but did have a ceiling, and was filled with all kinds of moving panels, rotating pillars, and all kinds of other stone contraptions. Some may have been traps or puzzles for the dungeon diver to figure out, but others seemed to serve no clear purpose, and may have simply served the temple’s religious functions (which makes a lot more sense than installing traps and puzzle rooms).
When I ventured deeper to the underground levels of the dungeon, I found a varied network of halls and rooms lit by torches. In one room there was a raised walkway that passed over a large door, with stairways leading down. I went down the stairway to find that the door was open and led to tunnel going even deeper, to the secret depths of the temple that I sought. It was guarded by a giant spider, a strange gleaming disc shaped one that was kinda beautiful (but also frightening). It began chasing me away from this entranceway, but I was smarter – I ran up the stairs, and then when it followed, I leapt down to the floor below and ran through the entrance that it had inadvertently abandoned.
I was living in an underground science complex thing, probably inspired by the compounds in Oryx and Crake which I am reading. I had somehow involved myself in an orgy, with women I assume were sex professionals. One of them asked me to hold her arms back so she couldn’t move. Anyway the security forces bust through the door and berate the two other guys who instigated this situation. Not because anyone had broken a law, but because they had exposed me to risk. I got the impression that there was a secret they were all keeping fro me – that I was very important, some sort of being created for a specific important purpose, there was only one of me and I could not have my health risked in any way or all would be lost. Everyone knew this but it had to be kept from me.
It was the 80s. Turns out Ninja Turtles were real, and I and some others went urban exploring to discover the part of the sewer that they grew up in. Turns out it wasn’t even that sewery, it was a series of tile and concrete halls and rooms that were separated by stairways of maybe four or five steps. Sections were flooded, but rarely more than a few feet. Parts of it were dimly lit with sunlight. It was sealed off from other underground sections by thick upward-sliding electronic doors with a glass window in the centre. The turtles were nowhere to be seen; all we found were giant bloatflies that were pretty annoying.
